My Story
In 2008, we appeared to be the perfect All American family. We had good jobs, nice cars, took an annual family vacation, had a nice home which even had a white picket fence. Our son was 7 and our daughter was 4. I was involved with many activities and organizations while working as a full time Dental Hygienist. My children were both involved in sports and other activities. My husband was a police officer who worked many hours of overtime in our city. We worked hard and were happy. What people didn’t know was that we had accumulated many bills and were unable to pay them. We didn’t have a savings account. My husband had some serious medical issues over which began in 2003, just after our daughter was born. We were told in 2008 that we couldn’t make monthly payments on the medical bills that we had to pay them in full. We couldn’t. I decided that I needed to bring in extra money to help reduce the compiling bills. I didn’t have a spare second to add anything to my plate but I needed "extra" income. I decided to do a search for home-based businesses on my computer, which brought up a broad set of options. Then, because I loved candles, I added “candles” to the search and discovered Scentsy. I thought, “Ninety-nine dollars. I’ve never heard of this company. The product looks great, even though I have never seen it in person. What have I got to lose?” I climbed into bed one night in August of 2008, and told my husband that I had signed up to sell and that I was going to need 100% commitment from him so that I could make “this” work. He agreed, knowing that I didn’t have the time to do it, but he knew I had the drive. I quickly found that, it’s so darn easy to sell something you’re passionate about! I had spent over 15 years coaching cheerleading and had left my coaching job to become a cheering judge after my son was born. I quickly realized that there was so much more to this business than selling. I could become a coach again! Something that I missed terribly. I absolutely love leading other Consultants in their Scentsy businesses. The camaraderie, being part of a team, being a positive influence, helping others find solutions to problems; these are just a few of the things that I enjoy about being a leader. My favorite piece of advice to share with other Consultants is that “When you encounter something negative, do everything you can to turn it into a positive.” I do my best to apply this with my customers and my down-line. It’s become a challenge that I live by. If I stay positive, then those around me will do the same. “Make a decision to be successful. Don’t hope that it happens … Make it happen!” I never would have dreamed that I could earn 6 figures in less than 2 short years, doing something “part time” that I love. Since August of 2008, I have traveled all over the US including Hawaii and Alaska, Canada, Mexico and multiple destinations in the Caribbean! In 2014 I was a top 100 trip earner and spent 2 weeks in GREECE and Italy! In 2015, I went to Madrid and Tenerife AND I got to go to New Zealand and Australia to spend time with my newest Scentsy family! Not only am I experiencing this but my family, friends and downline are too. I am finally able pay off my debt and save money for my children to go to college. This has become our family business. My children are very proud that they work for Scentsy. My 12 year old daughter wants to be a Scentsy Consultant when she grows up! The biggest bonus of all is I am now one of those Moms who gets to see her children get off the School bus. We have built this business as a family. The thing I am most proud of is the impact this has had on my children. They fully know and understand that if you want something and are willing to work hard for it, you can have it. They also understand that it is important to be positive, kind and to give more than you take. They love to help the less fortunate with their time, their words and our money. They are both strong leaders who I am sure will take the lessons we have learned as a hard working family and put them to good use as adults. As a matter of fact, my son received the very prestigious, 6th grade leadership award at his school and again in 8th grade, he earned the Leader Scholar award for our District. Our family believes that you can’t hope things happen, you have to make them happen. We will continue to do it in the most positive way we can.
